LEGO Formula 1 McLaren Helmets revealed, on sale today

The LEGO Group has just unveiled two new LEGO Editions McLaren Formula 1 helmets – and they’re available to buy from today.

Joining May’s Ferrari helmets and driver minifigures are 43017 McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Oscar Piastri Helmet and 43023 McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Lando Norris Helmet, two snazzy-looking helmets that have definitely not already turned up on store shelves across the US in multiple locations.

They come in at £79.99 / $89.99 / €89.99 apiece – much like their Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc counterparts – and follow the same format and footprint as those buildable helmets. Rather than recreating existing designs, however, these helmets are brand new concepts designed in collaboration between the LEGO Group and their drivers.

Each one features its respective driver’s signature colour scheme, mashed up with a unique McLaren livery intended to celebrate the team’s 1000th Formula 1 race at the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend. Piastri and Norris will be wearing real-life versions of these helmets during the race.

“It’s been a true co-creation process, where our LEGO design team worked closely with the drivers and McLaren Racing to develop these special 1000th race LEGO helmet products,” said the LEGO Group’s Chief Product & Maketing Officer Julia Goldin.

“Now fans will be able to build the sets at home, creating a cool memento of racing history for display. We can’t wait to see the real helmets being worn this weekend by Lando and Oscar!”

If you’re looking at these sets and breaking out into a nervous sweat at the thought of lining up all those stickers, good news: the liveries are apparently entirely printed, much like the Ferrari Editions sets already on shelves. Both sets come with first-ever LEGO minifigures of their drivers dressed in casual clothing rather than their race outfits.
